The 18th symposium of "Database systems for Business, Technology and Web" (BTW) of the GI (Gesellschaft für Informatik) took place from 4th to 8th March 2019 at the University of Rostock on the southern campus (venue).

University of Rostock

The Hanseatic city Rostock and the seaside resort Warnemünde are two of the most popular holiday regions in Germany. With its Hanseatic flair, Rostock attracts many tourists every year. But also students come to study at the Baltic Sea. The University of Rostock is the oldest and most traditional university in the Baltic Sea region. It consists of nine faculties as well as an interdisciplinary faculty.

The Institute of Computer Science (IfI) at the Faculty of Computer Science and Electrical Engineering is the central institution for university research and teaching in the field of computer science in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. The IfI is dedicated to both, basic research and application-oriented projects in all areas of computer science. Students are offered both, a practical and a research-related course of study. Due to the cooperation with the Interdisciplinary Faculty, research and studies are characterized by a high degree of interdisciplinary cooperation.

Database Systems for Business, Technology and Web

The BTW Conference is the most significant database conference in the German-speaking world. Since 1985, the BTW takes place every second year and offers a central forum for the professional exchange of scientists, practitioners and users. The topics which were discussed come from the fields of database and information system technology. In addition to a scientific conference program and an industry program there are various system demonstrations on the 18th BTW Conference. Tutorials, workshops and a student program will also take place within this framework. The BTW conference also addresses open questions such as known approaches to solutions. The current focus here is on the content: New hardware and storage technologies, data integration and extraction, provenance management, data protection, big data analytics, cloud computing, and new application areas and architectural approaches to data management.
